About the Role
Vacancy Status: This posting is for an existing vacancy.
Reporting to the Manager of Community Planning, the successful applicant will be responsible for carrying out planning assignments and supporting the Community Planning team. The Planner I will assist with research and preparing reports/presentations on a range of policy matters including cultural heritage, agriculture, natural heritage and land use.
This position will commence as soon as possible.
Key Responsibilities
The following responsibilities and duties of this position includes but is not limited to:
Undertaking and/or assisting with policy planning projects such as the Official Plan review, download of the Region of Durham Official Plan, Secondary Plans, and other policy matters.
Preparing briefs and assisting in the preparation of reports, planning comments and other documents on a range of matters.
Supporting coordination of Advisory Committees of Council and the
Facilitating public consultation and responding to inquiries.
Preparing presentations to Council and public information
Participating in meetings with agencies, developers, citizen groups, residents and other
Perform other duties as assigned, including those specific to the department.
What you bring
A degree in Urban and Regional Planning from a recognized university program or an honors degree in a related program.
A minimum of one (1) year experience in municipal planning; or possess qualities, skills and work-related experience to the satisfaction of the department.
Membership in the Ontario Professional Planners
Knowledge of the Planning Act, Provincial legislation, and municipal development
Proven written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to meet
Strong research and analytical
Demonstrated ability to provide a solution-oriented, customer service approach using good judgment, creativity, strategic thinking, negotiation and creative problem-solving
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in team situations or with minimal
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and
Proficiency in various types of software used in Planning including AMANDA, GIS, 3D Modeling, Adobe Acrobat/Indesign, and/or databases is an asset.
Ability to travel to various locations in a timely and efficient
Legally able to work in
What we offer
Salary: $70,891 to $88,419 - Code 10 of the 2026 Inside Collective Agreement.

This position is currently eligible for a flexible work arrangement option. Further details on this program will be discussed through the selection process.
Hours of work: 35 hours per week
Additional Information
A satisfactory criminal record check and proof of qualifications will be required for the successful candidate.
