How you contribute to our organization:
Lead and co-ordinate complex comprehensive studies and research projects to support the strategic evaluation of emerging trends and new planning requirements, including those from the province, and to ensure compliance of the Town’s implementing planning documents including the Official Plan and Zoning By-law
Facilitate, mediate, and coordinate meaningful engagement and input among Town departments, boards and commissions, Council, provincial and federal agencies, consultants, developers, Technical Advisory Groups and the general public; providing frequent and extensive functional, technical, and professional guidance while negotiating and aligning diverse interests to advance long?range community planning initiatives and the detailed development and implementation of planning policy projects.
Prepare policy documents including Official Plans, Secondary Plans and Official Plan amendments, Zoning By-laws and Zoning By-law amendments, growth management related studies and policy initiatives related to housing, intensification, secondary planning and heritage matters.
Review, analyze and evaluate Provincial and other municipally initiated policy initiatives and legislative changes to understand the potential impact to the Town.
Make professional recommendations, prepare staff reports and other communication materials, in addition to presentations related to strategic policy matters.
Provide guidance and mentoring to Planners with respect to complex aspects of planning responsibilities.
Assist the Manager, Policy Planning and/or Director of Planning and Building with the procurement and selection of consultants/consulting teams retained by the Town to complete specific planning studies within an approved budget.
Provide expert planning testimony before the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) and/or Divisional Court; assist Town legal counsel with settlement negotiations and preparing for proceedings including evidence evaluation, testimony preparation, the preparation of logical, cogent, and defensible witness statements and/or affidavits and document collection on Town policy initiatives
What you bring to the team:
University degree in Planning or a related field from a recognized university or equivalent.
Full member of the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) and the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP), or equivalent
Registered Professional Planner (RPP), or equivalent
Ability to provide an appropriate drivers’ abstract and criminal records check upon hire, a valid Class ‘G’ Driver’s License and reliable vehicle to use on corporate business
In addition to the above, Master’s degree in Planning or a related field from a recognized university or equivalent and/or related college diploma or additional vocational training.
Membership in the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals would be beneficial.
A minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in planning or a related field, preferably with some municipal planning experience.
Salary: $88,512.84 up to $110,636.28, plus employer paid benefits and OMERS pension plan
Hours: 35 hours per week, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday
Location: Town Hall - 24 Tupper Street West, Alliston
Start Date: June 8th, 2026
