Who are we looking for?
Under the direction of the Chief Planner and Director, Planning & Building Services, the Manager, Development Services leads the Town’s development review and approvals functions, ensuring effective implementation of planning policies and Council direction. The role oversees all development applications including Official Plan and Zoning By-law amendments, draft plans of subdivision and condominium, site plan applications, land-use compliance, and heritage planning. Provides planning advice, and prepares reports for Committee of the Whole, Council and the Committee of Adjustment ensuring compliance with municipal and provincial policy and legislation. The position plays a key role in advancing growth management, policy implementation, and service excellence in the development approvals process.
How do I qualify?
Credentials
Post-secondary degree in Urban Planning, Environmental Studies, or a related discipline.
Membership in Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) and the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI), with designation as a Registered Professional Planner (RPP).
Valid Class “G” Driver’s License with access to a reliable vehicle.
Due to the responsibilities of this position a Criminal Record & Judicial Matters Check satisfactory to the Town is required.
Knowledge/Skills Required
Progressive experience at a senior supervisory or management level in municipal planning.
Strong customer service orientation and excellent interpersonal, analytical, consultative, problem-solving, and presentation skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated leadership, organizational, time management, project management abilities.
Thorough knowledge of budget preparation and management.
Proficient in the use of MS Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
Thorough working knowledge of the Planning Act, development approvals processes, Provincial and Regional planning policy, dispute resolution techniques, and other relevant legislation.
Ability to work effectively with elected officials, all levels of staff, external agencies, developers, consultants and the public while maintaining respect and confidentiality.
Knowledge of applicable legislation, bylaws, legal proceedings and the ability to interpret legislation such as Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA), Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Employment Standards Act.
