Senior Planner
Permanent, full-time position
Salary: $98,935.00 - $123,669.00 (based on a 35-hour work week)
Reporting to the Manager of Planning, you will primarily be responsible for providing professional planning and community development services and programs for the County and its local municipalities. The Senior Planner manages development review and approvals; and implements the County’s Official Plan and land use initiatives.
Duties and responsibilities:
You will evaluate and make recommendations on all types of development proposals, including official plan amendments, subdivision and condominium plans, zoning by-law amendments, minor variances, consents, and related applications.
You will conduct comprehensive studies and research projects, prepare reports and recommendations pertaining to planning and development.
You will review and examine relevant policies, regulations, and guidelines, ensuring that approval conditions are properly formulated and that County interests are protected.
You will provide planning information and advice on planning principles and upper-tier municipal and provincial government planning policies and liaise with applicants, agents, lawyers, planning consultants, citizen groups, the general public, various government agencies, elected officials, other County service areas, local municipalities, the media, and others.
You will facilitate, develop, prepare, and coordinates public meetings and workshops.
You will attend meetings of standing committees and council as required to seek input from and present reports on complex planning matters and projects.
Qualifications, skills, and knowledge:
You have a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in land use planning and community development.
You have completed a 4-year university degree in planning, geography, environmental studies, community development or related discipline or a combination of relevant education and experience.
You have knowledge/experience in rural and agricultural areas, urban areas, and lakeshore communities.
You have strong skills in communication, report writing, time management, organization, computer literacy, and problem solving.
You are able to maintain positive networks by developing and securing relationships with agencies, governments, media, other professionals, and the public.
Membership with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute is considered an asset.
You have a valid Class G driver’s license.
